Policy and Procedures

Last Minute Fix

PLEASE LET US KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY ISSUES WITH THE GROOM BEFORE LEAVING THE SALON. WE ASK IF YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH THE SERVICES BEFORE LEAVING. IF YOU LEAVE THE SALON AND PAY WITHOUT TELLING US YOUR CONCERNS, YOU WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE ANOTHER GROOM/BATH IN ORDER FOR US TO FIX ANYTHING THERE ARE NO REFUNDS.

Our groomers will always work to give your pet the cut that you want, however, keep in mind that your pets comfort and health are always our number one priority. We will always keep notes on who groomed your pet and what was done for the groom. You are always able to request the same groomer and if they are not available, another groomer will be able to read notes on how your pet was cut. If you are unsatisfied with the groom, please let us know before you leave the shop so that the groomer can make any necessary corrections and we can take notes for the next groom. Any dog who is difficult with the grooming process or appears to be in a stressful state, we will notify you to pick up your dog and will only charge you for what was done. We will not stress any dog out for the sake of a perfect groom. We will try to accommodate you with another grooming appointment to fix anything that was not able to be done on a case by case basis

No One Gets Left Behind

THERE WILL BE A $25.00 DAYCARE FEE ADDED TO THE TOTAL BILL IF YOU LEAVE YOUR DOG FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR AFTER WE'VE CALLED YOU TO PICK UP YOUR PET OR YOUR PET IS LEFT AFTER HOURS. WE GIVE YOU A CALL 15 TO 20 MINS BEFORE WE ARE FINISHED WITH YOUR PET SO IT WILL GIVE YOU TIME TO GET TO THE SALON. IT IS UNFAIR TO LEAVE YOUR PET FOR HOURS AT A TIME. THIS ADDS TO THEIR ANXIETY AND IT ALSO TAKES AWAY FROM OTHER PETS BEING GROOMED.

No Muzzles Allowed

WE DO NOT USE MUZZLES IN OUR SALON. WE TRY TO MAKE YOUR PUP FEEL COMFORTABLE AND HAVE THEM TRUST US. USING A MUZZLE ISN'T CORRECTING THEIR BEHAVIOR. IF YOUR PUP SHOWS SIGNS OF AGGRESSION OR ANXIETY, WE WILL DEFINITELY TRY OUR BEST TO GIVE YOU A GROOM YOU WILL LOVE, BUT OUR MAIN PRIORITY IS MAKING YOUR DOG TRUSTFUL OF US. IF A DOG IS FEARFUL OF A CERTAIN AREA OF GROOMING, WE WILL NOT FORCE THEM INTO DOING IT, WE WILL LEAVE IT FOR LAST OR ASK YOU TO COME WHEN THEY ARE MORE RELAXED. WE CAN ALWAYS TRY AGAIN AT ANOTHER TIME AND WOULD BE HAPPY TO BOOK YOU ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITHIN THE WEEK, BUT PLEASE LET US KNOW OF WHAT YOU DO NOT LIKE BEFORE YOU LEAVE OUR SALON.

Taxes NOT Included

TAX IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE WE HAVE QUOTED YOU. TAXES WILL BE ADDED TO THE PRICE OF THE GROOMING AT THE END OF THE SERVICE UPON CHECK OUT.

No One Beyond This Point

WE DO NOT ALLOW WAITING INSIDE THE SALON, BUT YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO WATCH FROM OUTSIDE THE STORE. BEING IN YOUR BABY'S VIEW WILL JUST MAKE IT HARDER FOR US TO GROOM THEM AS THEY WILL GET EXCITED TO SEE YOU AND WIGGLE ON OUR TABLE. WE ARE WORKING WITH SCISSORS AND BLADES AND WE DO NOT WANT TO RISK YOUR DOG GETTING HURT BECAUSE THEY ARE EXCITED TO SEE YOU.

Grooming Wait Time

GROOMING NORMALLY TAKES AN HOUR TO AN HOUR AND A HALF AS LONG AS YOUR PUP IS COOPERATIVE WITH THE GROOMING PROCESS. IF YOUR DOG DOES NOT LIKE THE GROOMING PROCESS, IT WILL TAKE LONGER AND CAN BE AS LONG AS 3 HOURS. WE DO NOT FORCE YOUR DOG INTO DOING ANYTHING THEY ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH AND WILL GIVE THEM AS MANY BREAKS AS NECESSARY.

Matting

MATTED DOGS ARE AT A HIGHER RISK OF GETTING NICKED, CUT, BURNED, OR IRRITATED AS THE SKIN IS PINCHED UNDER THE MATTS AND WE HAVE TO GO UNDER THE MATTS IN ORDER TO REMOVE THEM. DEPENDING ON THE SEVERITY OF THE MATTS WE MAY BE ABLE TO BRUSH THEM OUT, BUT IN THE EVENT WE ARE UNABLE TO, YOUR PUP WILL HAVE TO BE SHAVED DOWN. WE ARE WORKING WITH BLADES AND SCISSORS TO REMOVE THEM. WE SHRIVE TO DO OUR BEST AND OF COURSE TRY NOT TO HURT THEM IN ANY WAY, BUT THE POSSIBILITY IS THERE. MATTED DOGS CANNOT BE WASHED AS IT WILL ONLY MAKE IT HARDER FOR US TO REMOVE THEM LATER. THEY MUST BE SHAVED DOWN BEFORE THEIR BATH. GROOMINGDALES PET SPA CHARGES A DEMATTING FEE TO SHAVE THE PET OR BRUSH THE PET OUT. THE DEMATTING FEE STARTS AT $25.00 AND IS ADDED TO THE SERVICE BEING DONE ON THE PET. DEPENDING UPON THE SEVERITY OF THE MATTING THE FEE COULD BE MORE. MATTED PETS MUST RECEIVE A FULL SERVICE GROOM AND CAN NOT RECEIVE A FULL SERVICE BATH ALONE FOR IT WILL MAKE THE MATTING WORSE.

Anal Glands

AS PART OF THE REGULAR GROOMING PROCESS, WE WILL CHECK AND ATTEMPT TO EXPRESS ANAL GLANDS ON SMALLER BREED DOGS. IF YOU DO NOT WISH THIS TO BE DONE, PLEASE NOTIFY US WHEN YOU DROP OFF YOUR DOG. IF YOU HAVE A LARGER BREED DOG, YOU MAY REQUEST US TO CHECK THE GLANDS. WE ONLY PROVIDE EXTERNAL ANAL GLAND EXPRESSION. SHOULD YOUR PET HAVE IMPACTED ANAL GLANDS AND NEED INTERNAL EXPRESSION, A VET WILL NEED TO PROVIDE THIS SERVICE.

Nail Trimming

All nails will be trimmed and dremeled during each grooming appointment. We always do our best to trim the nails as short as possible, without hurting your pet. Should your pet show any signs of aggression during the nail trimming process. We do not like to use muzzles and will try everything possible to avoid muzzling your pet. If your pet is showing signs of stress or aggression, we may not be able to dremel the nails.

Ear Care and Ear Hair Removal

As we strive to do every step of the grooming process, if your pet shows signs of an infection we will not clean the ear as we can potentially make it worse by pushing more bacteria into the canal. We cannot pluck any ear hair as well as it'll only irritate the ear infection more.

Cancellations

If it is necessary to cancel/skip your grooming appointment, Groomingdales Pet Spa does ask for at least 24 hour notice when possible. If you no-call no-show more than two times we will ask for a $25/deposit on your next groom. The $25 will be applied to the groom, however, if you cancel or no-call no-show, the deposit will not be refunded. We do understand that unexpected issues can occur without much notice, please notified us ASAP in those cases.

Scheduling

Groomingdale's Pet Spa is open by appointment only. The grooming process takes approximately 1-2 hours for most pets. However, the grooming process varies because of situations such as matting, de-shedding treatment, specialty haircuts, difficult pets, or other circumstances may cause your groom to take longer.

Old Age Policy

Groomingdale's Pet Spa typically does not work with pets that are over the age of 12 years old. Senior pets will be recommended to be groomed at a Vet with a groomer on staff. This is because senior pets often have a difficult time with grooming because of the added stress from grooming, as well as any medical issues that could arise from the grooming process.

Injuries

There is always the possibility of cuts, nicks, or burns during the grooming process. Some pets are harder to handle than others and accidents can occur. There are also times when mat burns show after they are shaved out. This is not caused by the groomer being careless, but the severity of the mats. We will always do an inspection of your pet upon arrival and in the bathtub. Your groomer will notify you of anything they find during those times. Should any cuts occur during the grooming process, we will notify you and advise you on how to treat these. Injuries caused due to the condition of the dog or cats matting is NOT the responsibility of Groomingdale's Pet Spa and any vet costs due to these are at the expense of the client.

Difficult Pet

If a pet is not cooperating and shows aggression, such as growling, lunging at staff, or showing teeth, Groomingdale's Pet Spa will contact pet owner to discuss how to proceed. Groomingdale's Pet Spa will do their best to work with your pet to complete services. However, if your pet is too difficult to work with, the pet owner will be contacted and informed of the situation. Pet owner will be charged a reduced price for the services that were provided.

Vaccinations

For the safety of your pet, the groomers, and all other pets that visit Groomingdale's Pet Spa, pets must be current on their rabies vaccination and show proof during first visits. Groomingdale's Pet Spa will request a copy of the rabies vaccination.  It is also your responsibility to bring proof of updated rabies vaccinations when needed. If proof can not be provided pet may not be groomed.

Allergic Reaction

Groomingdale's Pet Spa is not responsible for any allergic reactions your pet may have to any of our grooming products. Owner of pet is responsible for informing staff at check-in if pet is known to have any allergic reactions to grooming products. If pet is known to have allergic reactions to grooming products the pet will receive only hypoallergenic products, such as an oatmeal shampoo. If you feel your pet has had an allergic reaction to one of our grooming products, please let us know within 24 hours.
